Service Description
Embroidery is like drawing but with a needle and thread instead of paper and pencils. It is a wonderful creative outlet, but also allows students to practice fine motor skills, color theory, project planning, and problem-solving. In this class, students will learn a variety of embroidery stitches and how to use them to create their own “drawings” on fabric. We will start with the basics and add more stitches as student abilities and interests allow. Students will practice on sample designs and start with small projects, such as bookmarks, tote bags, ornaments, etc. As they gain confidence, they can progress to more complex projects such as visible mending (sashiko), embellishing a garment (pocket, collar, etc), or mixed-media projects combining embroidery with paint, beads, textured fibers, or found objects.
