High School Cohort Classes
New in 2026-27!! Entering high school is an exciting milestone that might also feel scary and confusing. LTAV is here to support your teen (and you!) as they start this new adventure.
Our Grade 9-10 cohorts are designed to support students following the A-G guides as well as those taking online classes. These cohorts are ideal for students & families who:

feel nervous about managing the high school workload
-
feel daunted by the books and/or topics covered in grades 9-10
-
prefer a group/social learning environment
-
need support with writing, grammar, literary analysis, and other core skills
-
who just want learning to be fun!
During each 3-hour block, students will have the opportunity to engage with their peers and navigate complex topics with support from LTAV instructors. Students will take part in guided discussions and engaging group activities, such as mock trial, reader’s theater, research projects, and presentations. Class time will include both instructor-led content and time for students to work on assignments specific to their chosen curriculum. Each unit features projects that can be tailored to each student and submitted as work samples and/or combined into an end-of-semester portfolio.

Visual Arts 1 (Art History: “Methods and Masters”)
Please note: Our English & Social Studies cohorts are not a traditional face-to-face class, nor are they a stand-alone curriculum. Students will need to complete work outside of class in order to meet the requirements of their chosen curriculum. Units will cover standard topics for grades 9-10, based on California Content Standards and the A-G Guides for each subject. Families & students are encouraged to share any specific curriculum requirements and due dates so that we can work together to support each student’s learning goals.

This fun and immersive art history class blends art, history, and creativity, helping students develop artistic skills, historical understanding, and an appreciation for how art reflects the world around us. This year, we are focusing on the fundamental concepts in art and design, as well as the historical figures who shaped the world of art. Over the course of the year, students will gain a deeper knowledge of art terminology, techniques, and key historical events, allowing students to see the interplay of art, culture, and history across the centuries.
Each unit is built around a theme that explores a different element of art & design through a single medium and the study of featured artists. During our first unit, students will explore the concept of line through projects using pencil or pen and ink, while learning about Leonardo da Vinci and other artists whose work features these elements.
Visual Arts 1: This is NOT an approved A-G class, but we will be using Blue Ridge Academy's A–G Visual Arts 1 elective requirements as a guide. High school students may complete assignments, activities, and portfolio work on campus with their peers. Students with other charter schools are welcome to participate and should confirm their school's specific A–G requirements with their educational facilitator.
