Learning Adventure Classes​

 

English Language Arts

 

Tuesday 
 

9:00-12:00

 

In our weekly English Language Arts class, students will develop reading & writing skills in a fun and supportive environment. You don't need to follow any specific curriculum to enjoy this class! Our lessons are based on English Language skills for all ages to help reinforce and enrich the learning students do at home. 

 

During each unit, students will get hands-on practice with reading, writing, group discussion, public speaking, vocabulary, and grammar while exploring themes that span multiple subjects, including history and science. Our units are structured so that students of all ages explore similar themes through a combination of school-wide and small-group learning. Students will spend the majority of the class learning alongside their peers with projects & lessons adapted for each age level. Students will also spend time engaged in school-wide projects such as debates/elections, poetry walls, research, presentations, and special events. 

 

Our English Language lesson units are designed to create fun, peer-based learning and enrichment while supporting grade-level content for:

 

  • "I Can" Statements for 2nd - 8th grade

  • A-G English (9th - 10th grade)

  • IEW “People and Places” (2nd-3rd grade) *

  • IEW Structure and Style Levels A & B  (3rd - 8th grade)

  • IEW "Writing Across the Curriculum" history-based lessons (4th - 8th grade) *

 

In 2026-27, our units will cover: Narrative & Memoir, Novel Studies, Grammar & Expression, Speeches & Persuasive Writing, Argumentative Writing, Poetry, Drama, and a Research Project & Presentation. Lessons will cover topics including grammar, vocabulary, reading fluency, formal & informal writing styles, and public speaking skills. STEM

 

Wednesday 
 

9:00-12:00

 

Join us for our weekly STEM class for engaging, hands-on activities that make learning math & science fun!! During each unit, students will explore a different branch of science through lessons that blend science, math, and history. Activities will include STEM-themed games, experiments, crafts, puzzles, model building, and making graphs and charts. In the spring, students can show off what they have learned by participating in the 1st LTAV Science Fair! 

Our units are structured so that students of all ages explore similar themes through a combination of school-wide and small-group learning. Students will spend the majority of the class learning alongside their peers with projects & lessons adapted for each age level.  Students will also spend time on school-wide projects such as building models, participating in engineering challenges, giving presentations, and working on the school timeline. 

 

Our STEM lesson units are designed to create fun, peer-based learning and enrichment while supporting grade-level content in:

 

  • "I Can" Statements for 2nd - 8th grade math

  • "I Can" Statements for 2nd - 8th grade science

 

In 2026-27, our planned units will cover:

Session 1 & 2: Earth Science

Session 3 & 4: Physical Science

Session 5 & 6: Life Science

Session 7 & 8: Science Fair & Research Project

CTE/Life Skills

 

Wednesday 
 

1:00-4:00

 

This year, we are blending two of our most popular classes, Culinary Arts & Financial Literacy! This new class block will still explore both topics, but will also include additional content that falls under Career & Technical Education and Family and Consumer Science. Students will learn important life skills, including budgeting, consumer smarts, nutrition, food preparation & safety, teamwork, and leadership through hands-on activities. We will also explore careers in related industries, such as business, banking, hospitality, food science, child development, marketing, and product design. 

 

To further the understanding of the concepts being taught, students will participate in the biannual LTAV Marketplace (dates TBD). Students will get real-world experience in entrepreneurship and/or hospitality as they create products, set pricing, talk to customers, make change, run the concession stand, and more. All proceeds will be divided among participating students and a charity of their choosing. 

 

Our CTE/FACS lesson units are designed to create fun, peer-based learning and enrichment while supporting grade-level content in:

 

  • "I Can" Statements for 2nd - 8th grade math

  • CA Health Education Standards for 2nd - 8th grade

  • FDIC “Money Smart” Program

  • CA Career Readiness standards

  • CA Standards for CTE Pathways in:

    • Business and Finance

    • Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation

    • Manufacturing and Product Development

    • Marketing, Sales, and Services

Please note: due to the profit-sharing nature of this class, new students will not be admitted after the halfway point of each semester.

Social Studies

 

Thursday 
 

9:00-12:00

 

In our weekly Social Studies class, students will explore subjects covering world history, geography, government, economics, and culture in a fun and supportive environment. You don't need to follow any specific curriculum to enjoy this class! Our lessons are based on Social Studies skills for all ages to help reinforce and enrich the learning students do at home. 

 

During each unit, students will get hands-on practice with map skills, data analysis, discussion of historical events and political figures, and the role of culture and community in our lives. Our units are structured so that students of all ages explore similar themes through a combination of school-wide and small-group learning. Students will spend the majority of the class learning alongside their peers with projects & lessons adapted for each age level. Students will also spend time engaged in school-wide projects such as debates/elections, poetry walls, research, presentations, and special events. 

 

Our Social Studies lesson units are designed to create fun, peer-based learning and enrichment while supporting grade-level content for:

 

  • "I Can" Statements for 2nd - 8th grade

  • California State History (4th grade)

  • Story of The World, Volume 4: The Modern Age (2nd - 8th grade)

  • IEW "Writing Across the Curriculum" history-based lessons  (3rd - 8th grade)

  • A-G World History (9th - 10th grade)

  • A-G Ethnic Studies - spring semester (9th - 10th grade)

 

In 2026-27, our units will focus on historical events from approximately 1850-2000. Historical events during this period include the Industrial Revolution, the Gold Rush,the British Empire, WWI & WWII, the Great Depression, the Cold War, and the Civil Rights Movement.
